5000 Patients for Lions District 404B1 Imeko Eye Centre


The Head of Local Government Administration of Imeko-Afun LGA, Mr Okesanya Bamidele has, during the official commissioning of Imeko Modular Eye Centre, assured the International Association of Lions Clubs, District 404B 1, of more than 5000 eye patients yearly to patronize the new eye center.

He gave this assurance in response to the Lions’ Sustainable Vision Project Committee’s patient target per year, as contained in the Key Performance Indicator document for the new modular center. Though the KPI mandated the center to treat 2565 patient per year, Okesanya however said the LGA will publicize the modular eye center activities to guarantee it more than 5000 patients in one year.

The Imeko Modular Eye Centre is one of the six newly constructed, fully equipped vision projects funded by Lions Clubs International Foundation and Latter-Day Saint Charities, in six primary health centers in Ogun State Nigeria.

Speaking earlier during the commissioning, the Sustainable Vision Project Committee Chairperson Lion (PDG) Waheed Kadiri thanked the leadership of Imeko-Afon LGA for their support for the project, particularly for providing the space that was renovated by the project committee for the modular center.

PDG Kadiri charged the chairman and people of Imeko Afon Local government to see the modular eye center as theirs and give it the best management possible. He encouraged the people to take advantage of the state- of- the -art eye health equipment in the center by using the services provided at the center.

Lion (PDG) Oluremi Odunmbaku, a member of the Vision Project Committee briefed dignitaries about global activities of Lions Clubs International and provided insights on the Ogun state sustainable vision project.  According to PDG Odunmbaku, the Imeko Modular Eye center, is conceptualized to provide referrals to Lion Eye Centre, Ogun State General Hospital, Ota, in cases that are too complex for the center to handle.

The Project Administrator, Lion (PDG) Lekan Babalola, in his address said the Imeko Modular Eye Centre project is designed to address major eye health challenges of availability, accessibility and affordability in Imeko-Afon LGA of Ogun State Nigeria. According to PDG Babalola, the modular eye centers will correct refractive errors, provide spectacles, refer other blinding conditions to the Lions Eye Clinic at the Ogun state General Hospital, Ota, and also give eye health education to the communities to prevent blindness. Babalola said the Imeko Modular Eye Center if fully equipped to meet eye health challenges.

The equipment at the center includes screening equipment, examination and diagnostic gadgets, refraction equipment, optical workshop, prescription glasses and other accessories. Standby generator and other logistics supports are also provided for seamless operation of the center.

The Onimeko of Imeko, His Royal Highness, Oba Benjamen Olanite, while expressing appreciation to International Association of Lions Clubs and the donors for the project Lions Clubs International Foundation and Latter-Day Saint Charities, appealed to the Imeko-Afon LG Chairman and health officers to perfectly maintain the facility in other not to disappoint the donors.

The Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Yahaya Fadipe thanked God, Government of Ogun State and Lions District 404B1 for bringing the facility to Imeko. He challenged the health officers in charge of the Primary Health Center to be diligent in the day to day running of the eye center.
