This is the principal axiom that birthed Citizen Comfort, a 24/7 online health guide portal for promotion of health and good living in all spheres of human life cycle, including Pregnancy, Infant and Children, Adolescence, Adult and Old age in December 1, 2020.
We came on the scene at a period of health anxiety in our focus area. Just as Covid 19 pandemic was freely ravaging the entire globe sniffing life out of people in droves and inflicting psycho-social-economic health stress on the people, the #EndSARS protest was also spreading like wildfire across Nigeria, compounding the health challenges of the people.
It was also at a time of worsening economic indices. The economy had slipped into recession again. The fuel price has been hiked and over hiked within short spaces. The crash of oil in the international market was further plummeting the Nigeria economy. The naira exchange rate was and still at an all-time high. The corollary to these economic problems is an increase in the level of violence within the polity. Abductions and kidnapping have become more vicious than robbery. Area boys and hoodlums’ activities also become more daring than ever. Fraudster’s, 419 and other scams are equally on the high. Herders and farmers collision; Boko Haram terrorism; cessation threats and cultists activities also increased within the polity.
All these plus the wanton destructions caused by the highjack of the youth protests, # End SARS by hoodlum did not only add more problems to the Nigeria economic woes, it equally compromises the mental health of many Nigerians.
The stress, the shocks and traumas in the Nigeria system have become too complex for an average man to handle or manage. Nigerians need to be taught coping strategies to maintain stable health in the unfortunate unstable system. Strategies that can serve as buffers and shocks absorbers to these mirages of problems. This is important in order to prevent more Nigerians going bunker and in order to minimize stress induced health challenges and prevent untimely deaths. Hence the birth of Citizen Comfort.
